Mental Health
According to the most recent Trevor Project Survey
- 45% of LGBTQ+ youth seriously considered suicide in the past year
- 14% of LGBTQ+ youth attempted suicide in the past year
- 60% of LGBTQ+ youth who wanted mental health care in the past year were not able to get it
- 73% of LGBTQ+ youth reported symptoms of anxiety
- 58% of LGBTQ+ youth experienced symptoms of depression
- 36% of LGBTQ+ youth reported they have been physically threatened or harmed due to their gender identity

Caring for yourself includes proper mental health. McLaren Health Plan Medicaid member benefits include unlimited mental health visits, in-network and out-of-network, with no authorization required. Use our online search tool or Contact Customer Service if you need assistance locating a provider. McLaren Community and Health Advantage members should contact Customer Service for specific mental health benefit information.
Gender Affirmation Procedures
Surgical gender affirmation procedures, also known as gender reaffirmation, are procedures for genital and non-genital surgeries that may include:
- Intersex Surgery
- Breast removal and/or reconstruction
- Penis and/or scrotum removal
- Construction of artificial vagina and female genitalia
- Construction of artificial penis and male genitalia
- Hysterectomy
Surgical procedures for gender affirmation require prior authorization to review for medical necessity. McLaren Health Plan uses the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) guidelines to determine medical necessity.

Fertility Services
Services for infertility are generally excluded from Medicaid coverage. Services may be covered for our Community and Health Advantage members. Contact our Customer Service Department for an explanation of your specific benefits.
