Know your Risks for Kidney Disease

Kidney disease is permanent kidney damage or decreased level of kidney function for three months or more. If Kidney disease is left untreated, it can lead to kidney failure. In the United States, 33% of adults are at risk for kidney disease, that’s one in three people according to the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan.

Many adults do not know they have chronic kidney disease. Little or no symptoms are shown, typically people are not seeing physicians regarding illness and there’s a lack of education about risk factors and detection.

Some of the risk factors include:

  • Diabetes
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Being an older individual
  • Being from African American, Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander, Native American or Arab American descent.
  • Having had COVID-19
