Mat Gaberty Heart Center

When someone is having a heart attack, every minute counts.

That’s why the Mat Gaberty Heart Center at McLaren Macomb has a rapid response plan for patients with chest pain or a suspected heart attack.

It all starts in the ambulance, where emergency responders begin transmitting the patient’s EKG readings directly to the Heart Center’s catheterization lab.

When the patient arrives, he or she is able to go directly to the catheterization lab for continued diagnosis or lifesaving treatment to open up a blocked artery and relieve a heart attack in progress.

The efforts have been a success. The Mat Gaberty Heart Center consistently exceeds the national standard for “door-to-balloon time” – a measure of how quickly cardiac treatment is administered when a patient first comes to the hospital with heart attack symptoms.

In addition, the facility is a fully accredited Chest Pain Center by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care. This national accreditation indicates that the Heart Center has met the highest standards for assessing, diagnosing and treating patients quickly.

Opening in 1989, the Mat Gaberty Heart Center was one of the first dedicated heart facilities in Macomb County. Today, the Center continues to enhance its cardiac programs, offering a full range of services, from diagnosis to treatment – and beyond through rehabilitation and patient support.

With an experienced cardiac team and advanced treatment options, the Mat Gaberty Heart Center works every day to provide patient-centered care that comes with a commitment to clinical excellence.
