Is it a Cold or the Flu?

To help determine if your child is fighting the flu or combating a cold, here is a guide to symptoms of both the flu and colds.

Flu

  The illness came on suddenly
Your child has a high fever
  Your child is very tired
  Your child’s cough is dry
  Your child’s head is achy
  Your child is not hungry
  Your child has the chills

Cold

 The illness came on slowly
Your child has little or no fever
Your child is a little tired
 Your child’s cough is severe
Your child does not have a headache
 Your child is eating normally
Your child does not have the chills

If you suspect that your child has the flu, you need to call your Primary Care Physician. If the doctor says it’s not the flu, ask him or her whether your child should get a flu shot.
